YMCA Camp Collins Summer Staff

Program Staff

Equestrian Team (4 Positions) Responsible for all areas of the horse program including: riding instruction, leading trail rides, grooming, tacking, and stable care. Follow high standards for participant safety and enjoyment. Live in cabins with campers, be positive role models and serve as co-counselors during evening activities. Work as a team with other horse staff under the guidance and support of the Equestrian Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. Previous experience with horses required. Minimum age 18. $155-195 per week

Challenge Team (5 Positions)
Responsible for supervision and safe instruction in Challenge Course Program, including climbing tower, low and high elements. Follow high standards for participant safety and enjoyment. Live in cabins with campers, be positive role models and serve as co-counselors during evening activities. Work as a team with other Challenge Team staff with the guidance and support of the Challenge Team Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. Prefer rock climbing and challenge course experience (challenge course training provided). Minimum age 18. $155 – 195 per week.
 


Aquatics Team (5 Positions)
 Responsible for supervision and safe instruction in aquatics areas, the pool and the Sandy River.   Follow high standards for participant safety and enjoyment. Live in cabins with campers, be positive role models and serve as co-counselors during evening activities. Work as a team with other Aquatics staff with the guidance and support of the Aquatics Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. YMCA or ARC Lifeguard Certification required. Minimum age 18. $155-195 per week


Environmental Specialist (1 Position) Responsible for leading Leave No Trace activities, encouraging "green" cabin standards, running a food waste program, coordinating recycling on camp, and leading engaging and informative environmental activities.  This new position will help develop the activities and environmental program structure. Live in cabins with campers, be positive role models and serve as co-counselors during evening activities. Work as a team with the other Speciality staff under the guidance and support of the Activities Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. Minimum age 20. $195 – 205 per week.  

Mountain Biking Specialist/Naturalist (1 Position)
Responsible for developing and supervising new mountain biking activities as well as supporting the Environmental Specialist when needed. The Mountain Biking Specialist will be responsible for maintaining bikes, taking campers on  and teaching campers basic bike repairs, bike safety and biking techniques. Live in cabins with campers, be a positive role model and serve as co-counselors during evening activities and when not working an activity period. Work as a team with the other Specialty staff under the guidance and support of the Activities Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. Minimum age 20. $195-$205 per week.

 

DramaSpecialist  (1 Position) Responsible for developing a drama specialty handbook, leading drama specialty each week, and incorporating drama into other areas of camp and staff training.  Live in cabins with campers, be a positive role model and serve as co-counselors during evening activities. Work as a team with the other Specialty staff under the guidance and support of the Activities Director. Develop positive working relationships with counseling staff. Minimum age 20. $195 – 205 per week.   

 

Communication Specialist (1 Position) Responsible for overseeing camp media activities including taking photos, creating slideshows, website maintenance, session newspapers and electronics used in daily camp activities. Work with the Activities Director and Executive Director to help present a public image for summer camp sessions. Also, work to create new opportunities to teach campers media related activities. Minimum age 20. $195-$205 per week.                                                                         

 

Counseling Staff 

 

Cabin Counselor (18 Positions) Lead, guide, and ensure the emotional and physical safety of a cabin of 8-12 campers. A cabin counselor serves as a teacher, mentor, friend, referee, community builder, activity leader and facilitator. Cabin counselors live in cabins with campers and are positive role models and skilled problem solvers.  Work as a team with other counselors in the unit with the guidance and support of a Unit Director.  Must have previous experience working with children.  Minimum age 18; prefer one year of college or equivalent and lifeguard certification. $155  – $195 per week.

 

Unit Counselor (12 Positions) Work closely with cabin counselors to provide constructive, responsible leadership and guidance for cabin groups of 10-12 campers. Each week, Unit Counselors relieve 3 Cabin Counselors during their time off. Other responsibilities may include assisting campers with special needs. Unit Counselors work between 4-8 weeks of the summer and will have the opportunity to preference which weeks they will be at camp. All Unit Counselors will attend Staff Orientation June 25 – July 1. Unit Counselors may have the opportunity to work with one of the Program Staff Teams. Prefer CIT experience and lifeguard certification; minimum age 17. $100 per week. 

 

Day Camp Counselor (8 Positions) Lead, guide and ensure the emotional and physical safety of a group of 8-12 campers. A Day Camp Counselor serves as a teacher, mentor, friend, referee, community builder, activity leader and facilitator. Work as a team with other Day Camp Counselors with the guidance and support of the Day Camp Director. Day Camp Counselors meet campers in the morning at drop-off sites in the Portland area, lead activities at camp during the day and ride with campers back to the pick-up sites in the afternoon. Day Camp Counselors live in cabins with resident campers and serve as co-counselors in the cabin when they return from time-off.  Must have previous experience working with children. Minimum age 18; prefer one year of college or equivalent, lifeguard certification, drivers license and a clean driving record.  $155 – $195 per week.

 

1:1 Counselor (1 Position) Support campers with physical, emotional and behavioral special needs. Work with Unit Directors and Cabin Counselors to help special needs campers have a successful week at camp. Will be responsible for one special needs camper per week. Must be flexible to move cabins on a weekly basis based on camper needs as well as support counselors/unit directors during weeks when 1:1's are not needed.   Responsible aiding UCs who may also have a 1:1 and constant communication with involved staff. Prefer one season camp staff experience.  Previous experience working with special needs children preferred. Minimum age 18. $155-$195 per week    

 

Teen Program Staff                                                 

 

Teen Counselor (4 Positions) Work closely with other Teen Counselors and the Teen Director to provide a fun, safe and innovative teen camping program. Lead, guide and support teen campers in activities, group living and personal development. Facilitate personal and group growth on the Challenge Course (training provided). Lead camping/adventure trips. Mentor teens as they learn about themselves and challenge them to take safe risks. Minimum age 20. Prefer one season camp experience and lifeguard certification. $175 – 215 per week.

 

Teen XL (Extreme Leadership) Counselor (2 Positions) Work with the Teen Director to create a new teen leadership program. Guide campers on backpacking trip and facilitate camper growth in areas of leadership, service and team building. Facilitate personal and team growth on the Challenge Course over the two-week session. Assist in the creation of the Teen XL handbook. Help campers make the transition from being a camper to giving back to camp, each other and their community. Evaluate XL camper’s performance and foster an environment in which campers can practice clear communication skills to evaluate themselves and their team. Live in cabins with campers. Need one season of camp experience. (Lifeguard certification and Wilderness First Aid preferred/Challenge Course Training provided). Minimum age 21. $185-225 per week

 

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program Coordinator (2 Positions) Work with Teen Director to plan, organize and implement Counselor in Training program. Supervise CITs on three day camping trip.  Provide leadership, guidance and support for CIT campers. Develop and teach high-quality, interactive workshops on leadership, personal development, risk management, age behavior, peer pressure, etc.  Guide campers as they develop skills to work with children and facilitate personal and group growth on the Challenge Course (training provided). Evaluate CIT performance and advise camp staff on how to mentor CITs. Live in cabins with campers. Need two seasons camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Minimum age 21. $205 – 245 per week.

 

Leadership Team 


Activities Director (1 position)
  Work with Program Director and Associate Program Director to organize and implement overall camp program. Lead, guide and support Specialists and Unit Counselors. Specialty areas include mountain biking, communications, environmental, drama and arts & crafts. Provide support for a team of 9-16 unit counselors. Must have experience and be willing to take on an active leadership role within leadership team. Oversee time off scheduling, in-services, staff development and specialist evaluations. Take active role in leading staff orientation.  Must have three seasons of camp experience and a minimum one season of supervisory experience. Prefer driver’s license, clean driving record and lifeguard certification (Challenge Course training provided).   Minimum age 21. $250-$300 per week.
 
Day Camp Director (1 position) Work with Program Director to plan, organize and implement day camp program for 50 – 80 campers. Provide leadership, guidance and support for a team of 5-8 counselors. Guide staff in forming positive relationships with campers and in developing counseling skills. Assist in staff hiring and take active leadership role in staff orientation. Responsible for overall Day Camp operation: tone-setting, camper behavior management, communication with parents, transportation of campers, staff evaluations, and coordinating activities. Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Driver’s license and clean driving record required. Minimum age 21. $230 – $280 per week.

Unit Director (3 Positions)  Provide leadership, guidance, evaluation and support for a team of 4-8 Cabin Counselors and 2-3 Unit Counselors. Responsible for overall unit operation: tone-setting, camper behavior management, communication with parents, duty schedules, staff evaluations, and coordinating activities and overnights. Guide staff in forming positive relationships with campers and in developing counseling skills. Assist in staff hiring and take active leadership role in staff orientation. Work with Program Director to organize & implement camp program. Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Prefer driver’s license, clean driving record and lifeguard certification. Minimum age 21. $205-245 per week.   


Teen Director (1 Position) Work with Program Director to plan, organize and implement Teen Program. Provide leadership, guidance and support for Teen Camp counselors, XL counselors and CIT Program Coordinators. Responsible for overall Teen Program operation: tone-setting, camper behavior management, communication with parents, scheduling, transportation of campers, CIT workshops, staff evaluations and coordinating activities and multiple off-site trips. Assist in staff hiring and take active leadership role in staff orientation. Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Required Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder. Prefer driver’s license, clean driving record and lifeguard certification (Challenge Course certification provided). $230-270 per week

Challenge Team Director (1 Position) Actively supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate challenge course program (includes climbing tower, low and high ropes course).  Follow high standards for participant safety and enjoyment. Provide leadership, guidance and support for a team of five program staff. Responsible for overall team operation: tone-setting, communication with Unit Directors, schedules, staff evaluations, and providing high-quality activities. Guide Challenge Team in forming positive relationships with campers and other staff and in developing facilitation and technical skills. Assist in staff hiring and take active leadership role in staff orientation. Participate in other camp programs and be a visible and active presence during evening activities. Work with Associate Program Director in planning, organizing, facilitating and documenting Challenge Team program. Ropes Course experience required. Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Minimum age 21. $215 – 255 per week.   


Equestrian Director (1 Position)
Actively supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate horse programs: including Western riding, horse care, and maintenance of equipment.  Follow high standards for participant safety and enjoyment. Provide leadership, guidance and support for a team of five program staff. Responsible for overall team operation: tone-setting, communication with Unit Directors, schedules, staff evaluations, and coordinating activities. Guide staff in forming positive relationships with campers and other staff and in developing teaching skills. Assist in staff hiring and take active leadership role in staff orientation. Work with Associate Program Director in planning, organizing, facilitating and documenting horse program. Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience; CHA Riding Instructor Certificate. Minimum age 21. $215 – 255 per week.

Need camp staff experience, youth program experience, and/or supervisory experience. Prefer drivers license and clean driving record. Minimum age 21. $215-255 per week

 

Support Staff

 

Health Officer (1 Position)  Supervise healthcare program and health care operations.  Help maintain a safe, healthy camp environment using preventative health care and risk management thechniques.  Review health histories, dispense personal medication, and provide first aid and medical care to all campers and staff in accordance with camp medical protocols.  Maintain health log, accident and incident reports.  Prepare first aid kits for use on hikes, trips and overnights.  Monitor, organize and resupply medical supply inventory.  Prepare first aid kits for use on hikes, trips, and overnightsMinimum age 21; Prefer RN degree and license to practice in Oregon State (minumum; entering or completing final year of nursing degree) or EMT, WEMT.  Prefer 1 year organized camp experience. $250-350 week.

  

Kitchen Staff (10 Positions) Kitchen staff consists of Cooks, Prep Cooks, Bakers, and Kitchen Assistants.  All Kitchen Staff will be cooking in an industrial sized kitchen for groups as large as 300 people.  Prepare hearty and healthy meals for both children and adults in a resident camp setting. Meals are generally served family style and occasionally as a buffet. Seasonal work is available year round. Minimum age 16, Food Handlers card. Prefer 1 year experience cooking for large groups. Prefer 1st aid/CPR certificates. Minimum wage – $8.50 per hour.
